We set out in 2004 to start a small select herd of Aberdeen Angus. We aim to produce quality, fleshing animals of a sensible size capable of growing and fattening at grass. Size of carcass is important, but selection for length of leg without soundness of conformation is not acceptable and shortens the productive life of breeding stock. We found animals mostly related to the Nightingale Duchess line as our starting point and have used semen from selected bulls to cross and line breed in an attempt to produce a type of stock that can carry the Beech Hay name.
We produce for showing and sale, quality animals of Hi-Health, Elite Herd status. Animals of lesser quality are sold either as fat or as store cattle, whilst bulls are presented for sale at home or bull auctions.
All our stock are IBR, BVD, Lepto and Johnes free. We are in a 12 month TB testing parish. Presently we do not vaccinate against any diseases, but maintain our status with double fencing around the farm and the quarantining of show animals.
In 2007, we won the Wales and West Mercia Association Herd Competition for the Small Herd Group, which is a great honour and delight.
