Border Leicester sheep are the oldest registered breed of sheep in the UK, their flock book record having been kept for over 100 years.
They are used as sires of cross breds - called The Halfbred - and it is in the production of this female that they have found their fame and
popularity. Such is their success in introducing hybrid vigour into other breeds that they have been named "The Great Improver".
As a sheep they are proud, broad and strong. They have length and well-developed chests and strength of bone. Their erect neck and ears
impart a grace and aloofness that belies their tractability and ease of handling.
